In the morning of my first day of class, Writing for High School, I felt confident that I was going to do well. When Mr. Gonzalez dropped me off at Tolman Hall, I started to doubt my abilities, which is something I tend to do. When I arrived at class, the door was locked, but the guidance counselor, whom I met in the elevator on my way up to class, unlocked the door for me. I sat alone in the classroom for a solid 30 minutes before another fellow student arrived. I introduced myself and she did the the same, while the rest of my peers arrived. Once everyone settled down, I felt intimidated because I realized that I was the only non-Asian in the whole class, but once started, I knew that everything was going to be okay because I was the only one volunteering.
I assumed everyone else was having trouble keeping up, but I later realized that they were not engaged because maybe the were not interested in the theme of the class or because they were extremely quiet. I later realized that the superhero theme was not about reading comics and certainly not what I expected. When class was finally over, I invited Mr. Huerta over to have dinner at our program and told him I would give him the details later. I felt positive that i was going to do just fine in that class.
